St. Mary's Island and Lighthouse.
St. Mary's Island is situated on the North East Coast of England
at Whitley Bay.
The Island was originally part of Northumberland but when Tyne
and Wear was formed the county boundary included the Island in Tyne
and Wear.
The lighthouse has been a landmark on the coast for many years,
guiding seafarers until it was made redundant and is now a museum.
The Island and lighthouse are reached along a causeway which is
covered by the rising tide twice each day. So, if you are caught
out on the Island you have a wait!
The photos on these pages have been taken at various
times of day - sunrise, morning,
evening and at various stages of the tide.
